Product Overview

The MAX5980GTJ+T is a quad, IEEE 802.3at/af PSE controller for power over Ethernet in 32 pin TQFN package. This power sourcing equipment (PSE) power controller designed for use in IEEE 802.3at/af-compliant PSE. The device supports both fully automatic operation and software programmability. It also supports new 2-event classification, class 5 for detection and classification of high power PDs. The MAX5980 supports single supply operation provides up to 70W to each port (class 5 enabled) and still provides high capacitance detection for legacy PDs. The device features an I2C compatible, 3-wire serial interface. The device provides instantaneous readout of port current and voltage through I2C interface. The device extensive programmability enhances system flexibility, enables field diagnosis and allows for uses in other nonstandard applications. It is used in PSE-ICM, power sourcing equipments (PSE), switches/routers and midspan power injectors.
  • Operating voltage range from 32V to 60V and supply current of 5mA
  • Automotive temperature range from -40°C to 105°C
  • Lowest power loss with system power management enables high power applications
  • 0.25ohm current sensing resistor and up to 70W per port for PSE applications
  • Fully software configurable and programmable
  • 400KHz serial clock frequency, 9bit port current and voltage monitoring
  • Provides powered device (PD) discovery, classification, current limit and load disconnect detection
  • High capacitance detection for legacy devices
  • Supports DC load removal detections
  • 9bit resolution ADC offset error is 2.5LSB at TA = -5°C to +85°C (voltage reading)
