MAX487ESA+

MAX487ESA+ is a low-power transceiver for RS-485 and RS422 communication. It features reduced slew-rate drivers that minimize EMI and reduce reflections caused by improperly terminated cables, thus allowing error-free data transmission up to 250kbps. Drivers are short-circuit current limited and are protected against excessive power dissipation by thermal shutdown circuitry that places the driver outputs into a high-impedance state. The receiver input has a fail-safe feature that guarantees a logic-high output if the input is open circuit. Applications include low-power RS-485 transceivers, low-power RS-422 transceivers, level translators, transceivers for EMI-sensitive applications, industrial-control local area networks.

• Slew rate limited, low power shutdown, receiver/driver enable
• 120μA quiescent current, 128 number of receivers on bus
• Differential driver output (no load) is 5V maximum
• Driver common-mode output voltage is 3V maximum at R=27ohm or 50 ohm
• Supply current in shutdown is 0.1µA typ at DE=0V, active-low RE=VCC
• Receiver input resistance is 48kohm min at -7V ≤ VCM ≤ 12V
• Receiver input to output is 250ns min at RDIFF=54ohm, CL1=CL2=100pF
• 8 SO package
• Temperature range from -40°C to +85°C
